Meet Our Alumni

Students in the HAPI program bring a variety of backgrounds, interest areas, and skills to the table. Keep reading to learn more about our alumni’s stories and their favorite memories from their time in the program.

The curriculum and support from [HAPI] professors/alumni really stood out – I was able to tailor my degree to my interests and the alumni/career center have been amazing resources throughout my career.

Favorite Program Memory: I really enjoyed my Global Health course with Dr Weinstein. She was wonderful & thoughtful with her in-class activities. She gave each student a gratitude journal & we’d fill it out at the start of each class.

Co-Founder and Director of Operations, Better Yoga

As a politics major who only had previous experience studying the humanities, and a yoga teacher versed in ancient health studies, HAPI enabled me to speak a new language to reach more people through my work. By immersing myself in biology, healthcare economics, epidemiology, and statistics, I’m now able to reach more people with an understanding of various health sciences I didn’t have before. Today, I can more effectively spread preventative health endeavors with the bridge of science-backed language and a broader understanding of our nation’s healthcare system and its costs.

Favorite Program Memory: I cannot call on a specific memory, but rather am grateful to have spent a year studying in Washington DC. What a privilege to live and work in our nation’s capital at one of the best universities in the country…one thing in particular I was surprised by during my time at Georgetown was how green DC is. I [spent] my mornings getting to run through forest trails and [forgetting that] I was living in one of the biggest US cities.

I think the most valuable thing I’ve learned in the program is that advocacy plays such a critical role in affecting change for those who don’t have the resources to advocate for themselves. No matter what your role is, it’s always important to be strong-minded in your advocacy efforts, especially when barriers that hinder your efforts are put into place.

Favorite Program Memory: I loved learning about the pharmaceutical industry and even had the opportunity to write a story for a client about how North Carolina counties are using opioid settlement funds to combat addiction in its communities. Overall, I’m proud to be a HAPI student and enjoyed my time with my cohort and professors. They taught me what real leadership looks like.
