Posted in Announcements News News Story

PharmedOut’s 2021 conference, Cutting the Cord: Curtailing Commercial Influence on Healthcare, will discuss how commercial influence on meetings, publications, and education affects what health care providers (including prescribers, pharmacists, psychologists and social workers) believe about both drugs and diseases. This year, we will focus on effective strategies for mitigating the damaging effect of industry influence on medical education and public health.

The conference will be organized around five major topics:

  • Rational Prescribing and Deprescribing
  • Medical Journals and Publication Ethics
  • Pharma-Free Medical Information
  • Transparency
  • Legal and Legislative Action

Speakers include Jerry Avorn, MD; Ginny Barbour, DPhil; Lisa Bero, PhD; Peter Doshi, PhD; Quinn Grundy, RN, PhD; Aaron Kesselheim, MD, JD, MPH; Joel Lexchin, MD; and many more.

As part of the conference, there will be an abstract slam for graduate and health professional students, residents, and fellows. The selection process will be competitive and chosen presenters will have 3-5 minutes to present their original research during a conference session.
